Goals and Operating Principles
The Great Fraser Fir Company is primarily a wholesale distributor of quality Fraser Fir Christmas Trees. It is our goal to provide accurately graded, fresh, and delivered-on-time shipments of Christmas trees to our customers. Our customers are garden centers, service organizations, or individual entrepreneurs marketing Christmas trees and greens to the retail customer. Our customers need quality trees and understand that Christmas trees are not a commodity such as bushels of corn or barrels of oil. Good is not good enough for our customers. We do not sell to large chain stores using cheap Christmas trees as a means to entice customers who are likely to also buy building supplies or beer and snack food. They simply do not need the accuracy in grading for both size and quality that we insure.
Accurate Grading
Christmas trees are graded for both quality and height. There are four different grades for quality (Premium,#1,#2, and culls) according to the United States Department of Agriculture. The USDA also has height specifications not just for individual trees in a size range but for the percentage of trees within a size range that meet the middle mark i.e. within a shipment of 6'-7' trees a certain percentage of those trees must be at least 6'6'' tall.
USDA grading does not seem to be widely applied or consistently interpreted. At the Great Fraser Fir Company our shipments of Christmas trees will meet or exceed USDA standards. We strongly feel that our customers should not need to read or even know the grading standards. The quality should be obvious to anyone viewing the trees. The size of the trees should not be border line. Christmas trees are sold by height. 5'10" does not equal 6' to the organization receiving a shipment of Christmas trees. We believe that it is easier to grow a tree one more year and give our customer full measure, than it is to grow another customer because we shipped short trees and lost their trust and business.
Freshness
We take pride in the quality of our trees and that means fresh Fraser Fir Christmas trees that look good and hold their needles throughout the holiday season. Our beginning cutting date is later than many other growers of Christmas trees. Also, our storage techniques insure that even our earliest cut trees have maintained their moisture content until the time of shipping.
Delivered on Time
Christmas Trees are obviously a very seasonal product and are needed at specific times. Our customers know when their busy Christmas season begins and they want product to sell. We will not accept an order if we cannot deliver it on time. We do request a narrow time window for delivery as we may be dealing with partial shipments or weather issues. If a customer's order fills an entire truck then delivery on a specific date can usually be specified. We will arrange shipment but it is also fine for a customer to arrange their own trucking. Let us know when the truck is to arrive and we will load the order.
The Bottom Line: We satisfy our customers because we provide great trees and great service.
